Lieutenant Yerima, the naval officer who challenged Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike over contested access to a piece of property in Abuja, has been commended by Minister of Defense Mohammed Badaru.
Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the former Chief of Naval, is said to be the owner of the land.
The Federal Government will defend and safeguard every member of the Armed Forces carrying out their legal obligations, the Ministers told reporters during a ministerial press conference on the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration on Wednesday at the National Defence College in Abuja.
“At the Ministry, and indeed within the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty.
“We will always protect our officer. He has done well. We won’t allow anything happen to him.
“We are looking into this issue, and I assure you that any officer performing his duty legitimately will be fully protected”, he said.
