According to former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry, Michael Olise, a winger for Crystal Palace, wants to represent France on the international scene rather than England.
Gareth Southgate, manager of the Three Lions, said last month that the FA was keeping an eye on the 22-year-old.
This came after Didier Deschamps decided not to include Olise in his squad for the 2024 European Championship.
Olise’s mother is French-Algerian, and her father is Nigerian. She was born in Hammersmith.
This implies that he is qualified to represent all four nations internationally.
Henry, nevertheless, says he would rather play for France.
Henry said: “We know that he has plenty of possibilities, but he wants to play for France. You have to highlight his desire to show that he wants to play for the French team.
“If he was English, he would have already left to play for England. He could have made the other choice and played the Euros with the England team, like his team-mate Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace but he wants to play for France, knowing that he wouldn’t play in the Euros.”
