Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) has unveiled 20 new academic programs, including *Cyber Security*, *Forensic Science*, *Data Science*, and *Software Engineering*, to keep pace with emerging global trends and prepare students for the evolving job market ¹.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, made the announcement at a press conference ahead of the institution’s 34th convocation ceremony. He emphasized that the new courses are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the modern world.
During the convocation ceremony, 6,209 undergraduates will graduate, with 115 earning first-class honors. Prof. Agboola noted, “A total number of 6,209 undergraduates, including 5,793 (regular) and 416 (part-time), will convocate for 2023/2024 while 741 postgraduates will be conferred with diplomas and higher degrees.”
The breakdown of the regular students shows that:
– *115 earned first class*
– *1,845 were in the Second Class Upper Division*
– *3,044 were in the Second Class Lower Division*
– *688 finished with Third Class*
– *35 had Pass grade*
– *66 (unclassified) graduated from our medical programmes*
Dauda Anuoluwapo from the Economics Department emerged as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.87. The convocation lecture, themed “TEFFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures, and the Future,” will be delivered by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sunny Echono.
The convocation ceremony, scheduled to take place next week, will be a momentous occasion for the graduating students, their families, and the university community. The introduction of the new academic programs and the recognition of the university’s achievements are a testament to OOU’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
