A statewide briefing of stakeholders about the recent disputes over local government leadership in Osun State has been initiated by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

This was revealed by Governor Adeleke on Tuesday after a meeting with Chief Bisi Akande, a former state governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Ibadan.

The governor is also expected to visit and provide important thought leaders with an update on the development during a special briefing session with the State Council of Traditional Rulers on Thursday, according to a statement provided to ZINGTIE in Osogbo by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

Adeleke disclosed that the briefing program started with a meeting with the elder statesman at his home in Ibadan.

The governor also spoke with Chief Akande about urgent state and national issues while accompanied by high-ranking state officials.

Governor Adeleke reiterated his dedication to the rule of law in addressing the local government issue and gave an overview of the state government’s position on recent judicial disputes.

“There is a need for all stakeholders to avoid resorting to self-help to prevent further loss of lives and property,” he said.

He restated his earlier demand that all sides come back to the courtroom to give their arguments.

Regarding national politics, the governor said Osun State is proud of the elder statesman and praised Chief Akande’s contribution to establishing unity and securing national leadership.

In addition, Governor Adeleke informed Chief Akande that the state government has a solid working relationship with the federal government in a number of areas and expressed the Osun State Government’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“Our father, we are here to pay homage to you as my predecessor and as an elder statesman. I am also going around to brief our leaders on recent developments in our dear state.

“Your relationship with the Adeleke family dates back to my late father. I chose to start this consultation with this visit,” he stated.

Despite their political disagreements, Chief Akande responded by thanking the governor for the visit and calling the development a positive one.

After hearing the delegation’s presentation, Chief Akande asked all sides to respect the rule of law and maintain peace for the good of the state as a whole.

The former governor urged all sides to uphold the rule of law and refrain from self-help, emphasizing that violence in the name of politics is intolerable.

The Osun APC responded to the Ibadan meeting by criticizing Governor Adeleke for “running helter-skelter” and asking Chief Akande for a soft landing in light of the state’s current political crisis.

The Osun APC expressed surprise that Governor Adeleke could visit Chief Akande following the alleged murder of Remi Abass, one of the reinstated APC local government chairmen, by PDP thugs, according to a statement released by Kola Olabisi, the party’s director of media and information.

The statement read: “We want to make it clear to Governor Adeleke and his associates that Pa Akande is a democrat, and no amount of under-the-table arrangements would make the former governor work against the interest of his party.

“Does Governor Adeleke expect Pa Akande to praise him for being instrumental in the killing of a chieftain and members of his party? We believe the governor should have knowledgeable political advisers who should guide him properly. If he truly seeks redress after the Akure verdict of 10th February 2025, the proper place to go is the Supreme Court.

“It is contradictory for a governor whose directive resulted in the killings of our members to think he can deceive the people through the back door. If Governor Adeleke is convinced he has a genuine case, why is he afraid of approaching the Supreme Court for redress?”

In order to guarantee that the benefits of democracy are felt throughout the state, the party further suggested that Governor Adeleke work with the council chairmen and council members who had been reinstated.
