A tanker conveying gas products went up in flames after the driver reportedly lost control while travelling at high speed along Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The vehicle was said to have hit a road bump before the incident occurred near Ola Farm Bus Stop.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), through its Permanent Secretary, Olawale Afolabi, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that emergency responders swiftly brought the situation under control, with no fatalities or injuries recorded.

According to the statement, officials of LASEMA collaborated with personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to put out the fire, secure the scene, and prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, businesses and other road users.

He added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force from the Ikotun Division handled traffic diversion and crowd control during the operation.

“We are grateful to report that there was no loss of life, and no casualties were recorded. The situation has been brought under control, and the fire fully extinguished,” he stated.

LASEMA noted that efforts were ongoing to remove the burnt tanker from the roadway, adding that heavy-duty equipment had been deployed for the evacuation exercise.

“We use this opportunity to remind all motorists of the importance of adhering to speed limits, particularly around designated bumps and in residential corridors. Such caution saves lives and protects property,” he said.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to emergency preparedness, rapid response and public safety across Lagos State, while commending all responding agencies and residents for their cooperation during the incident.
