Fanda Adamu, the former national treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), claims that the opposition party has devolved into a ghost of its former self and has written off the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances in the general elections of 2027.
Adamu made the statement on Wednesday in response to the PDP’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, while answering questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He claimed that despite recent attempts to recast itself, the PDP is politically dead and compared it to a “headless chicken.”
“The PDP is dead. You know PDP now is just like a chicken whose head has been cut off. It can continue to wriggle but, you know, it’s dead. The head has been cut off. They are still wriggling,” Adamu said.
He cited the party’s internal strife as evidence of its weakness, specifically between Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Atiku Abubakar, its 2023 presidential contender.
“What is PDP? It’s Wike and Atiku. Atiku has left. Wike is one leg in, one leg out. So tell me, PDP, if they like, let them zone the presidency to the ocean, not to the south. They will never win,” the former APC treasurer added.
Adamu’s comments coincide with heated discussions about the PDP’s zoning formula, with some party members applauding the move as a means of reviving the party and others cautioning that it may widen already existing rifts.
