PDP crisis: Anyanwu reveals who plotted his removal as National Secretary

Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed how Ali Odefa, the former vice chairman of the South East Zonal, planned to remove him from office.

According to Anyanwu, he was elected at a national convention and can only be removed by a national convention, despite the plot to remove him.

He made this revelation during a continuing discussion with South East extraction’s National Working Committee (NWC) members and the party’s zone stakeholders.

According to him, “In 2023, I wanted to contest for the governorship of my state and I wrote to the party that I would be away for three months.

“And I asked my deputy to hold forth until my return. Unknown to me, the former South East Zonal Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, was plotting to remove me from office.

“He deceived the only governor we have in the South East, Peter Mbah, to say I had to be removed.”

Since Anyanwu quit to run for governor of Imo, a post he lost, the role of PDP National Secretary has been controversial.

The party’s Southeast Caucus supported Sunday Ude-Okoye to take his place while he was away.

The party is now in even more turmoil as a result of his attempts to regain his place as secretary after losing it.

On December 20, 2024, an appeal court in Enugu maintained a previous ruling by a high court that had dismissed Anyanwu as the PDP National Secretary and confirmed Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate Secretary.

The main point of the latest standoff is that Anyanwu has requested a Stay of Execution and Appeal, and Damagum has designated Dr. Musa (SAN) as the party’s legal representative.
