Collins Ugochukwu, the member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing the Isiala Ngwa North district, abruptly defected to the Labour Party, LP, today, further reducing the number of PDP lawmakers in the legislature.
In a letter to Emmanuel Emeruwa, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, Ugochukwu formally announced his shift to the LP.
The legislator is now a member of the LP, according to the letter that the Speaker read aloud at the Abia Assembly’s plenary session.
This comes only a week after Lucky Nweke Johnson, the member for the Isuikwuato seat, left the PDP to join the LP, citing issues within his previous party and Governor Alex Otti’s actions as reasons.
Additionally, Rowland Dennis, the member for the Isiala Ngwa South seat, left the PDP in February and joined the LP.
However, given that the Isiala Ngwa North he represents is one of the populated LGAs that decide the victor of Abia guber votes, Collins Ugochukwu’s defection today could be a blow to the PDP in the 2027 calculations.
