The Labour Party’s nominee for president in 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, stormed Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on Friday to support the Nigerian team as they faced Angola in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, or AFCON, quarterfinal.
During and after the quarterfinal match in which Nigeria defeated Angola, Mr. Obi, wearing a customized jersey, made people laugh.
Since Mr. Obi’s jersey had the word “Authentic” clearly written on the back, many Nigerians hailed him as the nation’s “authentic” president.
Many suggested that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate may be a method to mock the current Nigerian administration, while others made fun of President Bola Tinubu, who has been charged with manipulating the results of the previous year’s general election to disadvantage Mr. Obi.
With a well-earned 1-0 victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola, the Super Eagles went on to advance to the AFCON tournament semifinals.
The victory for Nigeria was sealed at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan by Ademola Lookman.
On the other hand, pictures of Mr. Obi wildly applauding the Super Eagles’ victory have gone viral on the internet.
Principal officers of the National Assembly, who had stormed Abidjan to support the Nigerian team, were also in attendance at the stadium.
