Victor Kalu, 29, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command after he allegedly tried to commit himself on the grounds of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, or MFM, in Ibafo.
It was reported that late Friday at approximately 10:45 p.m., Kalu was seen attempting to hang himself from an electric pole within the church grounds.
Around 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, the suspect was turned over to the police when the church’s Chief Security Officer intervened quickly to stop the act.
Kalu, who resides at Plot 7, Oluwa Sesan Street, Ejigbo Road, Ikotun, Lagos, admitted to being overwhelmed by serious financial difficulties as a result of a loan he took out from an internet lender, according to police investigations.
“He explained that after receiving constant threats from the loan company and seeing no way to repay the debt, he decided to end his life by hanging himself at the church premises,” a police source disclosed.
Ibafo Division detectives went to the spot, took statements from the suspect and the complainant, and took pictures to record the event.
Kalu is presently being held while the case is being investigated, according to the police.
