The Abia State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that the Abia governor opposed the transfer of police officers from the state following the recent Force reorganisation.
The report had claimed that Governor Alex Otti directed the Commissioner of Police in the state not to release any officer pending further directives.
Reacting to the development, the state police command described the report as false and misleading, stating that it did not represent the position of the command.
A statement signed by DSP Maureen Chinaka read, “At no time did the Governor of Abia State direct the Commissioner of Police to withhold the release of personnel transferred from the Abia State Command to other formations.
“Police personnel are intermittently released on transfer as may be directed by the Inspector-General of Police”, the statement said.
The Abia Police Command explained that it recently released personnel transferred to the PMF, CTU, training institutions, and other commands in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
It further advised members of the public to disregard fake and unverified information and to obtain information only from credible sources.
