Inspector Elizabeth Osikolu, an investigating police officer, testified before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday about Omolara Alashe, a housewife, reportedly forcing a 19-year-old woman to have sex with her husband in order to conceive.

Omolara and her spouse, Ramoni Lateef, are accused with three counts of sexual assault, rape, and conspiracy.

According to NAN, the defendants entered a not guilty plea.

As the State Counsel, Mr. Babajide Boye, led the witness in evidence, the witness informed the court that the alleged incident occurred in Lagos at some point in 2022.

Osikolu informed the court that the victim’s mother died when they were residing in Ojota, and the couple volunteered to take her in.

She informed the judge that the victim claimed the couple had also mistreated her physically whenever she made mistakes while living with them.

The witness claims that on one specific day, the 19-year-old was woken up in the middle of the night by the first defendant (Omolara), who then stripped her naked while sharing a bed with the second defendant (Ramoni).

The IPO informed the court that additional information from her investigation showed the couple had a kid but passed away in October 2022.

The witness said: “The first defendant has not been able to conceive again after the death of the child.

“So they decided to use the survivor to bear children for him to prevent the husband from getting married again.

“The girl said they were in the sitting room one day when the first defendant started beating her, stripped her naked and inserted her fingers in her vagina.

“After she beat the girl, she threw out her belongings, seized her ATM card, MTN line and the salary she was making at the time to deny her access to her money.”

The witness insisted that the girl was telling the truth throughout cross-examination by defence attorney Mr. Lekan Egberongbe.

She claims that in her statement, the first defendant acknowledges it.

The witness informed the court that she would not have reported the sexual assault to the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, or DSVA, if the 19-year-old had given her approval.

“She would not have submitted herself for medical examination at Mirabel centre.

“The girl in question could not resist the man because she was intimidated by the wife,” Osikolu said.

In order to continue the trial, Justice Oshodi postponed the case to February 3, 2025.
