Political Storm Ahead? Former Presidential Aide Makes Bold Claim About Key NDC Figures

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has claimed that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, could leave the party if their political expectations are not fulfilled.

Ahmad made the assertion in a post shared on his verified X account, where he commented on the future of the party and the ambitions of its leading figures.

According to him, both Obi and Kwankwaso view the NDC largely as a platform for the 2027 general election rather than a long-term political project.

He argued that the differing political goals and timelines of the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and the Obi-Kwankwaso camp may create challenges for sustained cooperation within the party.

Ahmad suggested that the ambitions of the key actors may not remain aligned beyond the next electoral cycle.

“If Obi and Kwankwaso’s expectations are not realised within the party, they will definitely move on to another platform ahead of the 2031 for the same reason.

“It is obvious that Dickson is only pursuing a long-term political project, not a short-term electoral arrangement.

“From what I understood, his focus is to build a formidable political platform this time that could position him strongly for presidency in 2031 or so,” he wrote.

The former presidential aide maintained that the situation reflects the different strategic calculations of the party’s leading stakeholders as preparations for future elections continue.
