Portugal head coach, Roberto Martinez, has given an update on his squad ahead of his team’s international friendly encounter against Nigeria.
The Seleção das Quinas are scheduled to take on the Super Eagles on Wednesday, June 10.
Portugal will first face Chile on Saturday before their clash against Nigeria next Wednesday.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture, Martinez disclosed that Manchester City full-back Matheus Nunes is currently unfit to participate in training and will therefore miss the squad for the game against Chile.
He further revealed that former Barcelona and Chelsea forward João Félix will undergo a late fitness assessment to determine whether he will be available for selection.
“Unfortunately, Matheus Nunes is not yet fit to train, so he is out of the squad for tomorrow. It’s not the time to take risks. We hope Matheus will be fit for the second game against Nigeria,” Martinez said as quoted by A Bola.
“João Félix will train, and we will make a decision after training, but I think it’s a different situation. I feel it’s positive and that he will be fit to play tomorrow.”
