President Tinubu reacts to assassination attempt on Donald Trump

The attack on former US President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, according to President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, is repulsive.

At a Pennsylvania event on Saturday, Trump was shot as he was being hurried from the venue, and the assailant was slain.

In response to the attack, Tinubu tweeted on Sunday, describing it as repulsive and outside the bounds of democratic standards.

Saying that violence had no place in a democracy, he also wished Trump success and expressed his sympathies.

Tinubu wrote: “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.

“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
