Paul Ibe, a media assistant to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has questioned the recent dispute surrounding the legal status of Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
According to a Supreme Court document dated July 24, 2020, Obasa was not a lawyer recognised by the highest court.
On behalf of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Gertrude Karenton-Mordi signed the document, which was the Supreme Court’s answer to a request for verification regarding Obasa’s legal status.
Paul Ibe asked why the paper was made public following Obasa’s impeachment in a post on X on Friday.
He claimed that many government officials, including politicians and high-ranking officials, were similar like Obasa.
Ibe claims that certain elected officials in 2023 were charged with money theft, engaged in a credit scheme, and misrepresented their educational backgrounds.
He wrote, “Why is the Supreme Court document alleging that impeached Speaker Obasa is not a registered legal practitioner just coming out now? By the way, there are several of such persons still serving in government from the very top to lawmakers.
“Among the class of 2023 are those who forged certificates; lied about schools they never attended; refunded money for links to drugs trafficking; indicted for stealing funds of their clients and involved in credit card scam. There are several Obasas still holding sway.”
