Nigerian businessman and socialite Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has responded to a viral claim made by his adopted son, Chidi, who recently stated that he is the billionaire’s next of kin.

Chidi sparked online reactions after posting a TikTok video in which he referred to himself as Obi Cubana’s next of kin. The clip was captioned, “Nothing do my shoulder, I just realize say I be next of kin.”

In what appeared to be a subtle response, Obi Cubana posted a photo of himself with his biological son, Alex, on Instagram, alongside the caption: “Ancient and modern, eyes on the ball. @dtwalx aka next of kin.”

Alex joined in the comment section with, “Using my headphones right now,” to which Obi Cubana replied, “Correct boy, original next-of-kin.”

The post sparked mixed reactions online, with some criticizing Obi Cubana for addressing the matter publicly instead of handling it privately. One user on X, @Abazwhyllzz, commented, “Unnecessary. He should have told the guy to delete on TikTok, then solved it internally instead of coming to post sha.”

“I be poor man make I mind my business.”

A second user @Soyecatherings wrote, “I don’t think he thought of the consequences in the long run. This wasn’t the best way to address it sha. But even thinking about being the next of kin now simply means obi has to be unalive or old enough to not be able to run things.”
