In a bid to equip students with practical skills and knowledge, the Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9111, has donated a state-of-the-art vocational training centre to Ikeja Junior High School. The N40 million project was unveiled by Chief Olusegun Osunkeye, Chairman, Lafarge Cement WAPCO plc, and Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, District Governor, Rotary International District 9111.

The vocational training centre aims to provide students with hands-on skills, knowledge, and competencies required for employment in specific industries or fields. According to Oluwakayode Situ, President, Rotary Club of Ikeja, “The club places a premium on the empowerment of students, particularly indigent ones.”

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli Balogun, commended the Rotary Club for its outstanding efforts in serving the community. “This initiative will have ripple effects on our community, as it inspires learning hands-on, training, apprenticeship, and internship, that prepares students for enduring careers in areas such as technical fields and skilled trades,” Balogun said

The Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary, Education District Six, Mrs. Mojisola Yusuf, noted that the project will promote self-reliance and the spirit of entrepreneurship in the students. The Principal, Ayo Quadri, appreciated the club and assured that the centre would be put to good use.

This initiative is a testament to the Rotary Club of Ikeja’s commitment to empowering young minds and promoting education in the community.
