After a mob attack, the son of an Ondo police officer who decapitated his younger brother dies.
The Odigbo community in Ondo State is in shock at the death of a 26-year-old man named Daniel who is accused of beheading his 15-year-old brother, Emmanuel, in a horrific act of fratricide.
The misery for their family, especially their father, a well-respected local police officer, was exacerbated when the suspect, who had been brutally assaulted by an enraged mob following the murder, passed away in the hospital from his wounds.

The horrific event happened on Monday night in the Odigbo Local Government Area, close to the Onigbara River. Witnesses claim that under mysterious circumstances, Daniel enticed his younger brother to the remote riverside before viciously beheading him.
Roland Akinkunmi, a local, described the terrifying moment the crime was discovered:
“I was around the palace when I heard people shouting from the Origbara River axis. When I rushed to the scene, I saw Daniel holding a human head. At first, I didn’t even realize it was his brother’s because I was in complete shock. How could someone do this to his own blood?”

According to reports, a bystander who saw Daniel trying to hide the severed head in a bag set off the alarm. Other villagers heard the witness’s cries and quickly caught the guy before he could escape.
Anger-filled locals surrounded Daniel and brutally thrashed him. Upon his eventual rescue by law enforcement, he had already suffered potentially fatal injuries.
A community source who wished to remain anonymous verified:
“He was arrested immediately after the crime and beaten to a pulp by the mob. The police managed to save him and took him to the hospital, but the injuries were too severe. He couldn’t recover and eventually died.”
In a phone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the public relations officer for the Ondo State Police, formally verified Daniel’s passing.

“Yes, the suspect has died in the hospital,” Ayanlade stated.“ However, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered an immediate investigation into the mob attack. Anyone found culpable in the extrajudicial violence will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”
The fact that the two brothers were the sons of a prominent and well-liked local police officer added to the people’ sense of incredulity.
“Their father is a respected officer here, and this is just unthinkable,”said another distraught local.“We’ve never seen anything like this before. What could drive a brother to kill his own sibling in such a horrific way?”
Citing long-held convictions that people who carry out such actions for financial rituals are swiftly revealed in the town, some community members conjectured that the murder might have been ritualistic.
“In this community, if anyone sheds human blood for rituals or any evil purpose, they don’t go unpunished—they are exposed instantly,”one resident asserted.
Although none anticipated such a dramatic escalation, some recalled that the brothers had a history of arguments.
“They had their usual sibling fights, but nothing that suggested this level of hatred,”a neighbor disclosed.
The rural town is in mourning after the double tragedy, and many find it difficult to understand how a family argument, if that was the driving force, could turn into such violence.
Important questions remain unanswered as police continue their investigation:
Had law enforcement acted sooner, may the mob’s violent reprisal have been prevented?
What made Daniel carry out this horrible deed?
Did a sudden altercation become fatal, or was this a calculated murder?
