Residents of the South-East region have been called upon to disregard the Monday sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement on Sunday, the youth wing of the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, issued the directive, characterizing sit-at-home as an unprofitable endeavor.

In the context of the ongoing dispute involving traders from Onitsha Main Market and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Emma Powerful, spokesperson for IPOB, announced a sit-at-home across the South-East for tomorrow, Monday, February 2.

In a press release issued on Sunday by its National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Ohanaeze youths urged all residents of the South-East to conduct their lawful businesses as usual.

Describing the sit-at-home directive as self-serving, Okwu noted that Ndigbo would no longer be drawn into ventures that do not yield profit.

He remembered that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, had warned multiple times about any kind of sit-at-home in the South-East.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu spoke clearly that he was against it; he described it as economic sabotage against the South-East.

“Why then will anyone come again and say he is declaring sit-at-home. The implication is that it is self-serving an ego trip by those who do not mean well for Ndigbo.

“Nobody should obey such a reckless directive which has also been disowned by the IPOB Directorate of State, DOS. People should stop hiding under Biafra agitation to destroy Igbo land. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is never in support of anything that is bringing harm to our people.

“We then urge Onitsha Main Market traders, and indeed every other market, private and public institutions in the region, to ensure that they open for normal businesses and activities tomorrow, Monday, February 2.
