The military of South Korea has acknowledged that its troops fired warning shots at North Korean troops who had breached the border between the two nations.

About ten North Korean soldiers are thought to have crossed the military boundary on Tuesday.

However, following warning gunfire and announcements, they turned around.

The event took place in the eastern part of the demilitarized zone, or DMZ, at approximately 5:00 p.m. local time.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea texted reporters, said “North Korean soldiers crossed the military demarcation line (MDL) in the eastern area of the demilitarised zone (DMZ) around 5:00 pm local time.

“Our military is closely monitoring the North Korean military’s activity and taking necessary measures according to the operational procedures.”

Additionally, according to the South Korean military, some of the North Korean soldiers were armed.
