The Kano State Government has released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary Qualifying Examination, reinforcing its pledge to expand access to quality education and reduce the financial strain on households.

This update was made public on Friday evening by the State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ali Haruna Makoda, during a media briefing held in Kano.

Makoda noted that the development is in line with the education reform initiatives of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has previously declared a state of emergency in the education sector and committed 31.5% of the state’s 2024 budget to educational advancement.

He disclosed that a total of 141,715 students from public institutions under the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD), the Science and Technical Schools Board (STSB), and the Agency for Integrated Education Development (AIED) participated in the exam. Of that number, more than 75% achieved scores that make them eligible for government sponsorship.

“In 2023, a total of 125,000 candidates were sponsored by the state government. This year, His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has graciously approved the sponsorship of all indigent state candidates who scored a minimum of five credits in the 2024 Senior Secondary Qualifying Examination,” Makoda said.

“This is a timely and bold initiative by the Kano State Government to promote academic excellence, increase access to education, and ease the financial burden on vulnerable families,” he added.

Makoda also issued a directive to school principals, urging them to ensure that all eligible candidates benefit from the scheme without any form of bias or obstruction.

“They must access their rights unconditionally and with full transparency,” he stressed.

“This is not just about exams, it’s about shaping the future of Kano through an educated and empowered generation,” the Commissioner added.
