Ashleigh Plumptre has stated that she wants to compete for Nigeria in the 2024 Olympics.
Plumptre competed for England at the young level before deciding to support Nigeria.
The 25-year-old has competed for Nigeria in two significant competitions: the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023 and the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
But the centre defender said that competing in the Olympics is her ultimate goal.
“Yes, it would be the pinnacle of my career. It makes me smile just thinking about the Olympics,” Plumptre, who plays for Saudi club Al Ittihad, told Arab News.
“I love helping people, and the only thing I was interested in at school was human biology. I was just fascinated with the human body. My dream when I was younger was to be a doctor on an Olympic team because I love the Olympics.”
The former defender for Leicester City also talked about her time at the most recent World Cup, which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
“It was a crazy, crazy experience, but one that I will always cherish. I want to remember this for the rest of my life,” she added.
