Samuel Anyanwu wanted to halt the implementation of the Court of Appeal’s ruling that terminated him as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but the Supreme Court denied his motion.

On Monday, Anyanwu abruptly requested that the plea be withdrawn, and the apex court rejected it.

When Kingsley Njemanze, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, retracted the plea on behalf of his client, Justice Musa Awani Aba-Aji denied it.

Anyanwu was dismissed as PDP National Secretary in consecutive rulings from the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal in Enugu.

Anyanwu, however, changed his mind during Monday’s sessions and asked the Supreme Court to permit him to rescind his attempt to halt the implementation of the rulings against him.

The five-member panel of justices, led by Justice Aba-Aji, is currently hearing the substantive matter.

Last December, a Federal High Court ruling that dismissed Anyanwu as the PDP’s National Secretary was upheld by the Court of Appeal in Enugu.

Chief Sunday Ude-Okoye was later confirmed by the appellate court as the main opposition party’s substantive national secretary.

Anyanwu’s appeal was deemed incompetent and without merit by the Court of Appeal in the lead ruling, which was delivered by Justice Ridwan Abdullahi.

The appellate court claims that the appellant violated the PDP constitution by claiming the office of national secretary after running for and winning the party’s nomination in the 2024 Imo State governorship election.

Disappointed, Anyanwu petitioned the Supreme Court in February to overturn the rulings of the two subordinate courts and acknowledge him as the legitimate PDP National Secretary.

On the grounds of the national secretary’s vital duty, he also filed a plea for an accelerated hearing and an abridgment of time.
