Prominent party leaders, including Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the National Vice Chairman (North-East), and Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman, endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term without recognizing Vice-President Kashim Shettima, causing chaos at a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the North-East on Sunday.

APC governors, ministers, MPs, and other notable regional leaders attended the gathering, which took place in Gombe State.

When Salihu publicly stated his support for Tinubu as the APC’s only candidate for the 2027 presidential election—notably leaving out Vice-President Shettima, a native of Borno State in the Northeast—tensions reportedly increased, according to Daily Trust.

Delegates reacted angrily to his reluctance to recognize Shettima, with some yelling and threatening violent altercations. Salihu was swiftly removed out of the venue by security personnel.

APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Bukar Dalori, took the podium to try to defuse the situation by stating that he supported Tinubu and Shettima’s combined bid for a second term.

But when Ganduje supported Tinubu in his address and also left out Shettima’s name, the scandal grew even further.

Ganduje spoke for nearly ten minutes without mentioning the vice president, which infuriated party supporters even more.

Ganduje had to be led out of the venue under strict security, same like Salihu, according to Daily Trust.

Arguments erupted over the party leaders’ refusal to recognize the vice president, and the meeting abruptly terminated.

This comes days after Daniel Musa, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, chastised Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State and the party’s North-East Zonal Coordinator, for holding a crucial APC meeting on a Sunday morning, which is customarily a time for Christian worship.
