Mexican social media personality César Gastélum was shot dead while broadcasting live on TikTok outside a fast-food outlet in Culiacán on Tuesday.
Gastélum, who was widely known for sharing comedy content on the platform, was livestreaming alongside two friends when two men arrived on a motorcycle.
One of the assailants allegedly opened fire on him at close range before escaping from the scene.
According to local media reports, police initially mistook the victim for a delivery rider because he and his companions were dressed in bright yellow jackets and carrying delivery bags.
Authorities later established his true identity.
No suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said investigators are analysing spent cartridge casings recovered at the scene and reviewing CCTV footage as part of ongoing investigations.
Officials have yet to reveal a possible motive for the killing, and it remains unknown whether Gastélum had received any threats before the attack.
His death marks the latest in a string of fatal attacks involving social media influencers in Mexico.
In May 2025, 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Márquez was shot dead while livestreaming on TikTok from a salon in Zapopan.
Another content creator, Leobardo “El Gordo Peruci” Aispuro, was also killed in Culiacán in December 2024.
