Trump nominates Kash Patel to serve as FBI director

Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, has appointed Kashyap Patel, a long-time ally, as the FBI’s next director.

On Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social to announce Patel’s appointment.

“Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump’s statement read.

“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution,” Trump wrote.

Patel frequently and harshly criticised the FBI. He is a lawyer with expertise in counterterrorism, intelligence, and national security.

Patel also assisted in exposing the bureau’s monitoring of the Trump campaign and first term, according to Fox News.

He advised the government on additional appointments while serving on Trump’s transition team.
