Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has explained why Victor Osimhen was left out of the squad for their season opener against Gaziantep.

The striker’s absence raised eyebrows as the Turkish Super Lig title holders kicked off their new campaign, though they cruised to a 3-0 victory without him.

Osimhen, who was on loan at the club last season, only completed a permanent move to Galatasaray two weeks ago.

Speaking to CNN Turk, Buruk stated, “Playing here during that period could have been risky for him,” noting that the Nigerian forward had only undergone five or six days of training before the fixture.
