A Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, docked two men on Friday on suspicion of importing counterfeit condoms.

Three charges of conspiracy, forgery, and perversion of justice were brought against Emeka Daniel, 32, and Ugochukwu Eze, 35, by the police; their addresses were withheld.

To the charge, they entered a not guilty plea.

According to the prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, the crime was perpetrated in the Lagos Magisterial district on June 23.

Ikhayere claimed that both small and large phony Kiss condoms were brought into the nation by the defendants and other individuals in general.

She claimed that they concealed the harm that the fake condoms could do to their users in order to sell them.

The prosecutor claims that by assisting and obstructing the capture of the co-importer and seller of the aforementioned condom, the defendants tainted the course of justice.

According to Ikhayere, the offense violates sections 97(1), 362, and 412 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Anyone found guilty of forgery faces three years in prison under section 362, while those found guilty of perverting justice face two years in prison under section 97(1).

The accused were granted N500,000 bail by the magistrate, Mr. Lafeef A. Owolabi.

Additionally, he mandated that they furnish two trustworthy sureties in the same amount.

The matter was postponed until August 21 for mention by Magistrate Owolabi.
