Isaac Fayose, an internet personality, has called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, to involve UK experts in the establishment of the long-awaited state police.
ZINGTIE states that President Bola Tinubu is in the process of creating state police forces to address Nigeria’s security crisis, which has persisted for ten years.
On Wednesday, the IGP inaugurated a Committee on State Policing, calling it a vital step in strengthening community-based law enforcement.
Isaac Fayose stated on Facebook that it is essential to involve experts from regions where such systems have been implemented previously.
He urged the government to develop an ideal salary structure for local police officers once they are established, voicing concerns about potential sabotage from state governors.
He said, “I want to thank the Nigerian government, especially President Bola Tinubu, for finally working on state police.
“That is the only way we can protect our people. I have been shouting for state police for three years, and I am glad that we are finally on the verge of having it established.
“This will help a lot of states in reducing the crime rate.
“But the committee set up by the IGP has to involve many other people. We need to get an expert from the United Kingdom. Maybe a retired officer should be part of the committee.
“They have been doing that in the UK, they have regional and state police even up to the local government level. They have a lot of experience.
“Again, these states that are finding it difficult to pay workers’ salaries, some are paying as low as N70,000, is that what will be paid to the police?
“You have to address what the governors will pay the police. You can’t have state police and be paying them peanuts”.
