Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has stated that “Mikel Arteta will be furious” following Arsenal’s disappointing performance against Crystal Palace, just days before their crucial encounter with Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite taking the lead twice in a high-energy first half on Wednesday night, the Gunners were held to a 2-2 draw by Oliver Glasner’s side, putting their hold on second place in the league under threat.

Arteta’s squad has now recorded only one win in their last four Premier League outings, raising concerns as the season nears its conclusion.

With four matches remaining, Arsenal must secure at least six more points to guarantee qualification for next season’s Champions League, as five teams remain mathematically capable of overtaking them if results go against them.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, said: “I think he’ll be furious tonight, Mikel Arteta.

“They’ll be fine in terms of qualifying for the Champions League, but you want to put that to bed as early as you can.

“When you look at the fixtures, then you’ve got Bournemouth, which is not an easy game, at home. But that’s in between the two biggest games of the season.

“If you win tonight, you can almost write the Bournemouth game off and change the whole team – I don’t think he’s in a position to do that because of what comes next. Liverpool away.
