The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (UAFS) has announced a $7.5 million anonymous gift to support the expansion of services and programming for nonprofits in the state’s River Valley region. The award will endow the UAFS Centre for Nonprofits (CNP), part of the university’s Centre for Economic Development.

The funding will enable CNP to provide direct training and support to regional nonprofits, as well as award small grants offering access to resources and technology. Additionally, the gift will endow a nonprofit faculty position in the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences’ social work department, supporting academic research and workforce development initiatives and providing paid student internships

River Valley Nonprofits board president Tim Shields expressed his thoughts on the launch of the UAFS Centre for Nonprofits, saying, “The launch of the UAFS Centre for Nonprofits is a defining moment for the nonprofit community. This centre is more than a resource—it’s a long-term investment in the people and organisations doing the hard, human work of changing lives.
