Unknown gunmen kill policeman in Ebonyi

In Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi, a police patrol squad was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in the volatile Ngbo-Effium axis.

According to reports, a police officer was killed, and another was injured in the incident that happened on Thursday.

Joshua Ukandu, the state’s police public relations officer, verified this in a statement on Friday in Abakaliki.

“Operatives of the Command on patrol along Ngbo-Effium Road were attacked by armed hoodlums using an ash-colored Toyota Sienna with a registration number unknown,” he said.

According to a police spokesman, officers got into a gunfight with the criminals.

Ukandu reported that the injured police officer is presently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Augustina Ogbodo, immediately dispatched tactical teams of the Command to the scene.

“The team is on the trail of the hoodlums. Meanwhile, calm and normalcy have been restored to the area,” he added.
