US election: Pope Francis tells catholic voters who to vote for

In the US, Pope Francis has advised Catholic voters to ” choose the lesser evil” while choosing between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The pontiff made this statement on Friday during a news conference that was conducted from the papal aircraft following a twelve-day tour of Oceania and Southeast Asia.

The pope denounced Harris’ advocacy for abortion rights as a “assassination” and criticised Trump, declaring that “not welcoming migrants is a sin.”

“You must choose the lesser evil.

“Who is the lesser evil? That lady, or that gentleman? I don’t know. Everyone, in conscience, [has to] think and do this,” he said.

The Catholic leader emphasised that people must vote, saying that not voting is bad and unpleasant.

The pope did not, however, say which candidate, if any, he personally preferred.

ZINGTIE notes that Harris stated during the presidential debate on Tuesday that, should she win, she would like to codify Roe v. Wade into law.

In addition, if elected, Trump pledged to carry out the greatest mass deportation in American history.

Speaking about deporting illegal immigrants and abortion, the Pope declared, “It is an assassination.” On these things we must speak clearly. No ‘but’ or ‘however.”

“Not giving welcome to migrants is a sin. It is grave. Whether it is the one who is chasing away migrants, or the one who kills children, both are against life,” the Pope claimed.

Trump and the pope got into a heated argument in 2016 after the church declared that Trump’s proposal to erect a wall along the Mexican border was “not Christian.”

He had previously taken issue with President Joe Biden’s abortion policies.

Over 50 million Catholics live in the United areas, and many of them vote in battleground areas like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, according to Fox News.
