US Navy warship: A Nigerian man, Kelechi Ndukwe breaks record

Being the first Nigerian to command a US Navy warship, Kelechi Ndukwe has made history.

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Kelechi received a promotion to the rank of Commander in the US Navy.

US Army Officer Victor Agunbiade hailed Ndukwe on his accomplishment while sharing the news on his official X.

Ogunbiade shared photos from the promotion ceremony and wrote; “Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the newest US Navy Captain Kelechi Ndukwe. The first Nigerian to have a command of the US Navy War Ship! Congratulations on your promotion Captain! Well deserved.”

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, complimented Ndukwe on his accomplishment in response to the news on X.

“A hearty congratulations to Navy Captain Kelechi R Ndukwe who has been promoted to the rank of Navy Captain from Commander, in the US NAVY.”
