Social media users in Nigeria have responded to a widely shared video featuring Aproko Doctor, a doctor, cautioning against putting a kid under one year old to sleep face-down.
Despite the fact that Nigerians have been doing this for a long time, the doctor said in the video that it is improper to put a child to sleep facing down. According to him, a child may experience Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as a result of these sleeping arrangements.
He claims that infants under a year old can rotate their necks to either side to facilitate good breathing because they lack head control. According to him, infants who are put to sleep face down often breathe the same air, which might cause hypercapnia, or an accumulation of carbon dioxide in the body.
However, it appears that Nigerian mothers don’t agree with him. They contend that their moms taught them to put their infants to sleep with their faces down, and that this method has been effective for a long time. Additionally, they contend that babies who sleep on their bellies rather than their backs typically sleep better and for longer.
