The location slated for the national convention of a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the leadership of Nafiu Bala was left empty on Tuesday, with no presence of delegates or party officials.

The convention was billed to take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, but the premises showed no activity at the scheduled start time.

A correspondent with TV Platinum, monitored via Facebook, reported from the scene that there were no visible preparations or ongoing activities, while major sections of the complex, including the velodrome, remained locked.

The situation unfolds amid a lingering leadership tussle within the ADC, with competing claims between Bala and another faction headed by former Senate President, David Mark.

Bala’s faction had scheduled April 21, 2026, for its convention, shortly after rejecting the April 14 convention conducted by the rival camp, describing it as a breach of an existing court ruling.

He had also challenged the legitimacy of the earlier convention, citing the absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which he argued signaled a lack of official recognition.

The crisis has since intensified, with both factions asserting authority over the party’s leadership structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The dispute is currently before the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, following INEC’s decision not to recognise Bala as acting national chairman.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from Bala’s faction explaining the lack of activity at the convention venue.
