The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the country, saying that terrorism and banditry, once largely associated with northern Nigeria, have now reached areas close to him.
The revered cleric lamented that individuals allegedly linked to acts of insecurity continue to move about freely despite the worsening situation.
Adeboye made the remarks while speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington.
According to him, “It’s so bad, far worse, that people are asking, ‘Where is your God?’ That’s how bad things are. The terrorism, kidnappings and other bad things that used to happen in the north are now happening right near my home.
“They have traveled all the way to the southern part. And, of course, the sponsors are all well-known, and they are still moving around without any restrictions.”
The RCCG leader disclosed that he had discussions with President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the church, regarding the country’s security challenges.
He explained that he advised the President to issue firm directives to the military leadership and establish a specific timeline for tackling insecurity.
“Wipe out this rubbish or resign. Then take care of the supporters and the sponsors,” he said.
Adeboye further alleged that some politicians and business figures are responsible for supporting terrorist and bandit groups operating in the country.
He emphasized that efforts to address insecurity would remain incomplete unless those financing and backing criminal activities are identified and brought to justice.
“Some of them are businessmen. Some of them are politicians. Go after them. If you don’t take action against those providing weapons and bullets, and since they often ride motorcycles when they move around, the problem will keep happening if we don’t target the people funding it,” Adeboye added.
