The defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, the entire cabinet, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to the APC will greatly strengthen and consolidate the party’s support base in the South-South region, according to Senator Magnus Abe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State.

This stated was made by Senator Abe, the Chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, NAGGW, in a statement that his spokesperson, Parry Benson, signed.

According to him, the development shows that Nigeria’s democracy is flourishing under the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

Abe asserts that when each individual is given true freedom of association and choice, democracy thrives.

In his words, Senator Abe said, “Under President Tinubu, Nigerians have seen a tremendous increase in the resources available to the states, and serious-minded Governors have been able to utilise that advantage to the benefit of their people.

“This is the merit that Sheriff Oborevwori and his team have seen and decided to take advantage of it, to move the people of Delta state closer to the centre to accelerate development. It is a step in the right direction and I commend him.”

The statement also included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2007 presidential run while still a vice president, which led to his secession from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Governor Oborevwori and former Governor Okowa’s decision to join the APC, according to Abe, is acceptable and will ultimately benefit Delta State’s citizens as well as the South South geopolitical zone as a whole.

He said that those who accuse President Tinubu of advocating for a one-party state ought to stop playing the victim.

Abe stressed that encouraging opposition against themselves is not President Tinubu’s nor the APC’s duty or obligation.

In order to facilitate Governor Oborevwori and his team’s seamless assimilation into the party, Senator Abe also urged Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Festus Keyamo, Chief Ayeni, and other APC leaders in Delta State to band together in support of them.

He pointed out that President Tinubu’s APC is inclusive and wide enough to include all Nigerians.
