Two teenage students have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command in connection to a robbery at a mobile phone store in the city of Bauchi’s Wunti Market.
50 external memory cards, 30 cell phone batteries, 100 mobile phones, 75 MP4 players, and a Bluetooth headset were allegedly stolen by the suspects, both of whom were 15-year-old students at Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School.
After the shop owner informed the police about the missing merchandise, the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) squad began an investigation and they were taken into custody.
The incident happened on October 1, 2024, according to a statement made by Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer.
The statement claims that CSP Kim Albert, acting at the Commissioner of Police’s direction, CP Auwal Musa, led the ORP team to investigate the crime.
According to reports, the suspects—Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu—confessed to stealing the shop’s key and used the owner’s absence as an excuse to take goods several times during the day.
”They sold the stolen goods at reduced prices, using the proceeds to buy personal items such as clothes, food, and a smartphone.
“The Police recovered 21 mobile phones, 5 MP4 players, a mobile phone charger, and a metal key from the suspects while efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items,” Wakil revealed in the statement.
He further disclosed that after the investigation is finished, the adolescents will be placed under remand in a rehabilitation centre.
