Prominent Islamic scholars from around the world, including Saudi Arabia, the United States, Malaysia, and others, will meet in Nigeria for a major international conference aimed at promoting solid Islamic faith as the foundation for moral order and social stability.

The Islamic experts will attend the 17th International Conference of the Daaru Na’im Academy for Shariah Sciences, which will be held in Lagos from January 1–4, 2026.

According to Daily Trust, thousands of Muslim faithful, traditional rulers, scholars, religious leaders, and government officials from Africa, Asia, North America, and Europe attended the conference.

The conference’s inaugural session was held at the Daaru Na’im Eid Praying Ground, next to Alimosho General Hospital in Igando, Lagos, with over 20,000 attendees in person and thousands more joining electronically from all over the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, As-Shaykh Dr Imran AbdulMajeed Eleha, director-general and Chief Imam of Daaru Na’im, stated that the conference was held to address modern difficulties confronting Muslim societies, particularly those related to belief, values, and social cohesion.

The four-day seminar, titled “The Jurisprudence of the Sound Creed (Fiqh al-‘Aqīdah) and Contemporary Challenges,” aims to emphasize the importance of authentic Islamic belief in developing responsible individuals and societies.

According to Eleha, many of the social, moral and doctrinal issues affecting Muslim communities today are due to departures from genuine Islamic faith, a condition further compounded by the actions of esoteric and deviant groups that fraudulently claim Islamic connection.

“These challenges require a united scholarly response grounded in authentic Islamic teachings and guided by knowledge, wisdom and moderation,” according to him.

Scholars and dignitaries from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Malaysia, Benin Republic, Ivory Coast, Algeria, Gambia, Togo, and other countries will attend the conference. Among the notable attendees are representatives from the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, experts from important Islamic institutions in North America and Asia, and officials from African Islamic councils and colleges.

The opening ceremony was held in Arabic, English, French, Hausa, and Yoruba, emphasizing the multinational and multicultural aspect of the event.

According to Mukhtar Gidado, his media adviser, the governor declared the holiday in honor of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

The Islamic scholar’s death was confirmed earlier on Thursday, November 27, and he is scheduled to be buried according to Islamic traditions today, Friday, November 28.
