Salamatu Danjuma, a 25-year-old housewife, has been taken into jail by the Bauchi State Police Command on suspicion of killing her husband by stabbing him following a furious dispute about child custody.

The terrible occurrence happened in Nadabo village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, after a disagreement about custody of Salamatu’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, according to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Wakil Mohammed, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, stress increased when the husband changed his mind after the pair had first decided to bring the child into the house.

Salamatu allegedly took a knife from their bedroom and fatally stabbed her husband during a furious altercation that followed.

Detectives from the Bununu Police Division responded to a distress call, raced to the location, and took the victim to Cottage Hospital in Bununu, where he was pronounced dead.

The State Criminal inquiry Department has been instructed to carry out a covert inquiry by State Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, who has promised that the proper legal measures will be implemented.

According to him, the suspect is still being held while command personnel continue their investigation into the matter.
