‘Why I feel honoured to experience prison’ – Tems

Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, is a Grammy-winning Nigerian singer who has called her experience in a Ugandan jail a “blessing in disguise.”

The “Crazy Things” singer claimed she was honoured to visit a prison.

Tems clarified that if she hadn’t gone through the experience herself, she wouldn’t have understood what inmates were going through.

She underlined how her time in prison had made her more humble.

“Prison was once in a lifetime experience that I actually feel honoured to have had because otherwise, I would never have thought about these people, and to be in their presence was very humbling,” Tems told ES Magazine.

ZINGTIE recalls that on December 12, 2020, Tems and Omah Lay attended a performance at Speke Resort in Kampala, Uganda, violating COVID-19 social distancing rules. As a result, they were taken into custody, charged with a crime, and imprisoned.

After spending two nights in detention, they were eventually given bail.
