Brazilian forward Neymar has expressed deep affection for Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

The Santos star made the remarks while speaking to DSPORTS following Brazil’s World Cup encounter against Scotland on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old also used the opportunity to celebrate Messi, who marked his 39th birthday at Argentina’s training camp on Wednesday.

Speaking after the game, Neymar spoke warmly about the Inter Miami captain and their longstanding relationship.

“He is excellent on the field, and even better off the field.

“He is a very good friend of mine, and he knows I care about him very much.”

Neymar and Messi enjoyed successful spells together during their time at Barcelona and later reunited at Paris Saint-Germain.

The two South American stars built a close friendship during their years as teammates and have remained on good terms despite representing rival national teams.
