France captain Kylian Mbappe has emerged as the leading contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or as the FIFA World Cup progresses into the quarter-final stage.
The French forward currently tops the scoring chart at the ongoing tournament after helping Les Bleus secure a place in the last eight.
Mbappe has so far registered seven goals and provided two assists during the competition.
According to the latest projections from Polymarket, the 27-year-old has a 26 per cent probability of claiming football’s most prestigious individual award.
England skipper Harry Kane occupies second position on the list after scoring six goals at the World Cup, with a 23 per cent chance of lifting the Ballon d’Or.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi and France winger Ousmane Dembele are both rated at 11 per cent in the current predictions.
Notably, Messi’s chances have risen dramatically after the start of the World Cup, having been given less than a one per cent probability of winning the award before the tournament began.
