According to Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, on Thursday, some claimed youths ambushed and killed 16 officers and men of the Nigerian Army’s 181 Amphibious Battalion when they were on a peace mission to the Okuoma community in Delta state’s Bomadi Local Government Area.

Gusau made this public on Saturday in Abuja. He also stated that the commanding officer, two majors, a captain, and twelve soldiers had all been killed.

He stated that while responding to a distress call resulting from a fight between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta, the troops were ambushed and killed.

He stated that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has mandated the quick investigation and arrest of those responsible for the horrific act.

He said that the incident had been reported to Delta State’s government.

“The military, however, remains focused and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country.

“So far, a few arrests have been made while steps have been taken to unravel the motive behind the attack,” he assured.
