Zinedine Zidane, the former midfielder for Real Madrid and Juventus, has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Fédération Française de Football (FFF) to become the head coach of the France national team this summer, succeeding Didier Deschamps, according to ESPN.
After 14 years in the role, Deschamps is expected to resign.
Zidane, who has been unemployed since his second term as Madrid manager in 2021, has long been seen as destined for the role.
Zidane, who is 53 years old, would receive his official appointment after the conclusion of Les Bleus’ participation in the 2026 World Cup.
Before he signs, the only detail left to work out is regarding his backroom staff.
Philippe Diallo, the head of the FFF, disclosed in a Sunday interview with Le Figaro that he was aware of who would take Deschamp’s place.
“I know who it is,” he stated, keeping the identity to himself.
