Zuby Michael reveals why Igbos don’t get much support in entertainment industry

Nollywood actor Zuby Michael has offered an explanation for what he believes is the limited support received by Igbo talents within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The actor made the claim while speaking during an interview with Broadway TV.

According to Michael, some industry gatekeepers and executives are reluctant to invest in or promote Igbo talents because they fear such talents could eventually become more successful and overshadow them.

He alleged that concerns about being outshined by emerging Igbo entertainers influence the decisions of some powerful figures within the industry.

Michael’s comments have sparked conversations about representation, support and the role of industry executives in creating opportunities for emerging talents.

He said, “Igbo people are fast learners and they are capable of making it big with just a little. You might decide to mentor an Igbo person and what took you 10 years to learn, he will learn it in one year and six months.

“And if you don’t treat him well, he will leave you and start doing the same business you taught him and become your competition. So, people are scared of that.

“Industry executives, including some Igbos, don’t like supporting Igbos because they feel like they will get betrayed by their mentee outshining them,” he explained.
