Supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Kano State have protested at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the exclusion of their governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu, from the final list for the 2027 governorship election.
The demonstrators gathered at the commission’s office in Kano on Friday, calling on INEC to address the alleged error and publish the names of both candidates to ensure the party can participate in the election.
The protest followed an earlier complaint by the NDC’s Kano chapter regarding the absence of its governorship ticket from the final list released by the electoral body.
The party denied responsibility for the omission, attributing it to a computer glitch at INEC and maintaining that it had fulfilled all the necessary nomination requirements.
During the demonstration, NDC leaders appealed to the commission to resolve the issue and include their candidates in the final list, insisting that the party had complied with all conditions for the election.
Earlier, the party’s Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Yusif Fasaha, had appealed to members and supporters to remain peaceful while its leadership continued discussions with INEC.
“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us. We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was from the computer and that they would rectify it,” he said.
