Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, may join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), according to Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
He made this claim while claiming that, surprise, Obi is not a nasty person.
After his father defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bashir made hints about this.
He gave away the hint in response to a post on X (previously Twitter) made by user @Freedom42602077, who contended that unless the SDP sided with Peter Obi, it would be difficult to defeat the APC in the 2027 elections.
“Bro to bro, if Peter Obi is not in that party, they can’t win the presidential election. APC will have it again!” the user wrote.
Reacting, Bashir El-Rufai simply replied: “He is coming.”
Additionally, Bashir wrote in another post: “Peter Obi is surprisingly not a bad person after all. My views on him have changed recently. My mind was poisoned by my former party members.
“Sai Obi!”
Since then, his crypric statement has stoked rumors about ongoing political realignments leading up to the general elections in 2027, with many wondering if Obi is really thinking about joining the SDP.
According to ZINGTIE, Bashir made the comment following his father El-Rufai’s well-publicized departure from the APC.
Recently, the former governor of Kaduna State delivered his letter of resignation to the ward leadership.
El-Rufai had grown more critical of President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration prior to his resignation.
He explained his defection by pointing to a growing gap between his personal principles and the party’s current course.
